DAYTON, Ohio -- The passenger in a motorcycle crash near the intersection of Danner Ave. and Richley Ave. in Dayton died from injuries sustained during the crash.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on Friday.

The motorcycle slammed into a tree, killing Johnny Payton, 27, on the scene, Sgt. John Sullivan said.

His passenger ,Shauntel Evans, 31, died at Miami Valley Hospital Saturday night, the Montgomery County Coroner's Office said.

Officers said the motorcyclist and his passenger were leaving a local bar called The 19th Hole just a short time before the crash.

An crash reconstruction team was called out to determine how and why it happened.

A large crowd of grieving family and friends watched as crews investigated the scene.
