PermaFix Controversy Heats Up

DAYTON, Ohio -- A new controversy over the plan to treat a nerve gas by-product in Jefferson Township continues to heat up.
Residents living near the PermaFix plant say they've just received a newsletter from the company in the mail.
The newsletter discusses the facts of a plan to treat Hydrolysate, a VX Nerve Gas by-product, at the plant, but neighbors don't like it.
Many say they don't like the plant's activities now and they don't want a potentially dangerous new procedure on top of that.
The company right now is conducting treatment demonstrations to prove they can safely dispose of Hydrolysate.
Montgomery County has also hired its own consultant to issue a report on the procedure's safety.
