Investigators Search For Clues In Jeffersonville Shooting

Posted: 4:04 pm EST March 4, 2004

Authorities said witness descriptions of a gunman and a vehicle are the most detailed yet in the investigation of 21 sniper shootings along a Columbus interstate.

Jeffersonville ShootingsA van and a Mercedes were shot minutes apart on Interstate 71 in Jeffersonville Sunday, which is 25 miles from the Columbus-area highway shootings.

Franklin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Steve Martin has stopped short of connecting Sunday's shootings to the serial shootings. However, he said they seem consistent with the Interstate 270 shootings.

The driver of the Mercedes described the gunman as a middle-aged white male, with a medium build. Another motorist called 911 to report a man standing next to a black sports car on a highway overpass.

No one was injured in the shootings on Sunday.
