Investigators: Jeffersonville Shooting Consistent With Sniper Case

Posted: 4:05 pm EST March 4, 2004

Investigators said a van and a Mercedes were shot minutes apart Sunday in a case resembling a series of 21 sniper shootings along a highway south of Columbus.

Authorities haven't linked Sunday's two cases on Interstate 71 in Jeffersonville to the serial gunfire. However, they said initial evidence showed that they're consistent with the Interstate 270 shootings.

No one was hurt in the shootings, but the victims were identified as Douglas Berry of Mansfield and Cheryl Shreyer of Baltimore.

One person has died in the serial shootings, which have targeted vehicles, homes and schools near the highway encircling Columbus.

Witnesses to Sunday's shootings said there was a dark sports car and a white man in his 30s or 40s with a handgun on the overpass at the time of the shootings.
