Pastor Conducts Prayer Vigil For Highway Shooting Investigation

Posted: 10:11 am EST March 12, 2004

Friday night, the Rev. Johannes Christian is leading a prayer vigil for investigators and victims of the series of highway shootings near Columbus. Johannes was blinded by a rock thrown from an interstate overpass three years ago.

The pastor at the city's Adoration and Peace Baptist Church said he felt he had to take action about the series of 24 highway shootings because of his own injury. The most recent shooting was Feb. 14.

Christian has forgiven the teenager who tossed a large rock from an Interstate 70 overpass near Springfield in July 2001. The pastor nearly died and has gone through years of painful reconstructive surgery on his face and skull.

Christian said he's notified 1,300 area churches about the 7 p.m. vigil at First Congregational Church.
