RICHMOND, Indiana -- Richmond police said a vicious attack on a pregnant teenager took the life of her unborn child Wednesday morning. The stabbing happened around 3 a.m. in the 1000 block of Sheridan Street.

Officers said the girl's ex-boyfriend is accused of stabbing 19-year-old Tiffany Watkins, who was six months pregnant. They said Richard Bishop, 23, stabbed her at least a dozen times in the back, arms and chest inside her house.

Medics took Watkins to Reid Hospital where she is listed in unknown condition. The victim's baby died as a result of the mother's injuries.

Investigators said Bishop was charged with murder and is being held in the Richmond Jail. They are also trying to determine if Bishop was the father of Watkins' baby.
