Jim Barton Wants Charges Dropped

LEBANON, Ohio -- A former police Lieutenant charged in connection with the murder of his wife fights to have the charges dropped.According to investigators, Vickie Barton was sexually assaulted and shot to death in April of 1995 in their Franklin Township home. The case went unsolved until the Warren County Cold Case Squad reopened it.Jim Barton was charged with five criminal counts, including complicity of involuntary manslaughter. On Thursday, his lawyer met with a Warren County judge to discuss motions, including a motion to dismiss charges and a change of venue.Some of Jim Barton's relatives were in court to show their support. Barton has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.The judge in the case is considering issuing a gag order, which could be imposed next week.
