Dental Records To Be Compared To Human Remains

Posted: 11:32 am EDT September 27, 2004Updated: 11:43 am EDT September 27, 2004

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office is comparing dental records of missing Darke County man, Phillip Troutwine, with human remains found over the weekend in West Carrollton.

The remains were discovered in the trunk of Troutwine's car, parked at an apartment complex.

Detectives are not talking about what they found, but according to police, they are now treating Troutwine's disappearance as a homicide. They are even listing an address of where the killing may have occurred -- an apartment on Auburn Avenue in Dayton.

Dayton police along with Darke County authorities searched the apartment in the 2000 block of Auburn Avenue several weeks ago. Inside the apartment, they found blood and evidence of a violent crime, but nothing to link the scene to Troutwine.

On Saturday, a tip led to the discovery of Troutwine's car, according to police. They said this is the first solid lead since his disappearance on Sept. 1, when he was last seen leaving his job at Dayton International Airport.

Inside the trunk of his car, homicide detectives found a badly decomposed body. It was taken to the coroner's office for an autopsy and identification. According to a spokesman for the coroner's office and crime lab, they expect to do dental comparisons today. They expect to be able to determine if the body is that of Troutwine sometime today as well.
