Police: Missing Man's Death Ruled Homicide

DAYTON, Ohio -- The Montgomery County Coroner's Office has identified human remains that were found in the trunk of a car over the weekend. Investigators found the car in West Carrollton at a parking lot.The remains have been identified as that of missing Darke County man, Phillip Troutwine.
Troutwine was last seen Sept. 1 at his job with the Federal Aviation Administration at Dayton International Airport.On Monday night, a dental expert was able to positively identify the remains that were found on Saturday. Also, Troutwine's death has been ruled a homicide.The cause of death for the 57-year-old man has been determined as a gunshot wound to the head, according to the coroner's office.His remains were found in the trunk of his car, parked in a lot of the Centerville Park Apartments in West Carrollton. The discovery was made after someone called the Darke County Sheriff's Office.Investigators are keeping quiet about their investigation into Troutwine's death, but according to police reports, he may have been shot and killed at an apartment on Auburn Avenue in Dayton.On Monday, NewsCenter 7 spoke with an Auburn Avenue resident who wanted to remain anonymous. He claimed he saw someone similar to Troutwine in the area, and that he may have been shot and put into a car.
