A Dayton police officer who was handcuffed after the shooting death of his wife is no longer in police custody.

Police said they never booked Officer Michael Blake after his wife was fatally shot on Saturday. Doctors were not able to save Niema Blake, 31, after she was taken to a local hospital.

The mother of Niema Blake, Nevada, said she is wanting some answers about why Michael Blake is not in jail and what happened on Saturday that led to her daughter’s death. Authorities said police were called to the Blake residence North Euclid Street on Saturday after Niema Blake suffered several gunshot wounds.

Investigators said Michael Blake called police dispatch after the shooting. Blake was taken into custody and questioned at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Niema Blake was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she later died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators said they believe they have recovered the weapon that was used in the shooting. However, they are not saying if the weapon is Michael Blake’s revolver.

Dayton’s police chief is expected to hold a news conference on Monday to talk more about the shooting and the circumstances that may have led to it.
