Troopers are investigating a serious accident that sent four young men to a local hospital. The accident happened Tuesday night on Dayton-Yellow Springs Road in Greene County.

Investigators said it appears that a driving mistake may have put the four men, between the ages of 19 and 21, in danger.

Authorities said the vehicle the four were riding in went off the road, into a ditch and then slammed into a tree. Troopers said the driver of the car tried to go around someone in a no-passing zone and had to drive into the ditch to avoid an oncoming car.

All four were taken to a local hospital with injuries, according to troopers. They said one of the men was trapped in the wreckage and removed by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital.

Investigators said several drivers stopped to help the four before paramedics and troopers arrived on the scene.

On Wednesday morning, troopers said one of the men is listed in critical condition. They said the three other men suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and are expected to recover.

Troopers aid none of the men were wearing seat belts when the accident happened.
