House Speaker: Proposed 9 Percent Tuition Cap Too High

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- House Speaker Jon Husted said the 9 percent tuition cap proposed by Ohio Gov. Bob Taft for state colleges and universities is too high.Husted, a Dayton-area Republican, will not give details on what he believes the cap should be but said House Republicans are working on their own proposal.Taft, also a Republican, wants to continue current tuition caps at 6 percent but allow another 3 percent if the money is used for financial aid.The GOP-controlled House Finance Committee plans discussions Tuesday on higher education funding and changes to Ohio's tax system.
