Robbery Suspect Captured After Early-Morning Chase

DATON, Ohio -- A robbery suspect is behind bars after police said he led officers on a chase early Friday morning.
The chase ended near the intersection of Valley Street and Herman Avenue when the suspect was taken into custody.Authorities said Elmer Hampton, 42, of Huber Heights, was wanted in connection with robbing two United Dairy Farmer stores on Thursday night. Police said a couple of officers spotted Hampton's truck and tried to pull him over, but he took off.
Chase Of Alleged Robbery Suspect
Police said Hampton led officers on a chase all over the city of Dayton. They said at one point the suspect drove onto Interstate 75, driving the wrong way with his headlights off.Officers managed to get the Hampton to stop by using stop sticks. However, he jumped out of the truck and took off on foot. Police said Hampton was captured but officers had to use a Taser gun to get him under control.At this time, Hampton is at a local hospital for treatment after he fell and hit his head. Authorities said when he is released he will face felonious assault charges, two robbery charges and drug possession charges.Police said Hampton has active warrants for his arrest in Miami County and in the city of Dayton.
