A man was shot over the weekend during an attempted carjacking and now two men are behind bars accused of the crime. The carjacking happened outside the VFW post on West Third Street.

Police said the victim and another man were walking out of the VFW when two armed men approached them. Police said the gunmen stole cash and jewelry from the victims, and then shot one of the men and took off in his car.

Officers found the men they believe stole the car in a nearby wooded area. They also found the gun that is suspected of being used in the incident.

Authorities said they believe the men are career criminals from the state of Georgia. Investigators said they believe the men may be responsible for a series of robberies.

Police said the men will face aggravated robbery and felonious assault charges.

The victim is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
