SHELBY COUNTY -- Authorities in Shelby County said a 2-year-old was found dead in a swimming pool late Tuesday night at a home on County Road 25A.

Police said the mother left her 2-year-old twins in a downstairs bedroom for a nap. She said she heard one of the boys crying and found that they had gotten outside through a window.

The mother told police that she found her other son floating face down in the pool. Emergency crews arrived and tried to revive the child.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.
