BEAVERCREEK, Ohio -- With the hot temperatures over the past couple of weeks a lot of people are taking part in outdoor activities. Authorities said that when people leave their cars parked, thieves are targeting the valuables that are left in them.Glenn Thompson Reserve is located on Route 35 near Trebein Road. Robin Hinderman calls it a quiet place and often eats his lunch at the reserve.Police said last week there was a problem at the reserve. They said a vehicle that was parked there was broken into.Authorities said the thieves managed to break into the car and grab a wallet that was sitting in plain view. Investigators said the thieves used a credit card before the owners of the vehicle realized that the card was missing.Police said the people who owned the vehicle had gone canoeing for three hours. Officers said when they returned, it had been two hours since the credit card had been used.Park Ranger Brady Smith said it only took the thieves 15 minutes to use the stolen credit card. He said two men were captured on surveillance video at the Kohl's store in Beavercreek carrying a bag full of sports clothes and several gift cards.Smith said the theft could have been prevented if the people who owned the car simply locked up their valuables.
