Ohio Gov. Bob Taft was in the Miami Valley on Friday. He joined people at the University of Dayton for the 45th anniversary of the Peace Corps.

Prior to Taft getting involved in politics, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in the early 1960s.

In the early '60s President John F. Kennedy called up a nation of young volunteers to work for peace worldwide. Now, 45 years later, former volunteers, including Taft, got together to share their experiences.

Taft told people all about his time in the Peace Corps. He said he worked as a teacher in the African nation of Tanzania.

The Peace Corps today has nearly 8,000 volunteers worldwide, and it is always looking for young people to joint the effort.

The governor is encouraging college students to consider the Peace Corp after graduating from college.
