City Of Troy Awaits Bike Race

Posted: 2:26 pm EDT April 4, 2006Updated: 2:38 pm EDT April 4, 2006

Troy Main Street is proud to announce an upcoming summer event, the Troy Classic on the Square.

The event will be a criterium bike race. A criterium is the most popular form of bike racing in the U.S., for several reasons.

Racers in criteriums are grouped in categories, according to their national amateur standings in the U.S. Cycling Federation. Category 1 is the highest; 4 is the lowest. Troy’s race features prize purses in several different races, including the Masters Races.

The Troy Classic on the Square will be a particularly challenging course. Normally, criteriums have four corners, with right or left turns, forming a rectangle. Troy’s circuit has eight corners, and will also use the square for two additional fast corners.

The Troy Classic on the Square will have participation by racers from all over the Midwest. It promises to be a wonderful sporting event for spectators, with fun activities for all ages.
