NewsCenter 7 exclusively broke the news Wednesday that a tentative agreement has been made to continue building vehicles at the Moraine Assembly Plant.

More than 4,000 people are employed at the plant, and if all goes well, employees could soon be making General Motors’ next generation of mid-sized SUVs.

Workers at the plant have been worried if they would have jobs when their contract expires with GM in 2007. Workers are glad to hear that their union reached the tentative agreement with GM to keep the plant open and operating in the future.

Details of the tentative agreement have not been released.

GM officials in Detroit said the tentative agreement is a win for them and a win for the city of Moraine.

Nancy Sarpolis with GM talked with NewsCenter on the phone Wednesday morning and said, “This is great news for the Moraine plant. It certainly puts them in the best competitive position possible, and a very strong future for the plant. “

Starting third-shift workers will be getting handbills. Union meetings are set up with workers for next week.
