COLUMBUS, Ohio —

Ohio gas prices are hovering well under $4 as signs of economic weakness in the United States and elsewhere have pushed the price of oil toward its lowest level since last fall.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio is about $3.58 in Monday's survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. That's up 2 cents from a week ago but below the average of $3.71 at this time last year.

Higher production contributed to lower oil prices. Recent reports of weak job growth in the U.S., a deepening financial crisis in Spain and slowing growth in China also rattled markets.

Nationally, the average price for regular gas is $3.54, down about a nickel from last week.
