FAIRBORN —

A Fairborn fourth-grader missing for nearly a day spent the night alone, according to police.

Members of the community searched Friday afternoon for the boy, who had been missing since getting off the school bus Thursday.

He was located Friday afternoon on West Dayton Yellow Springs Road near a daycare center, where a student at the center saw him walking through a treeline near the school and alerted a teacher. Police said he is in good health and safe.

He was reported missing by his mother after the school day Thursday.

Police said the boy, a Fairborn Intermediate School student, reportedly got on a different school bus. The driver of that bus told police the boy said he was visiting a friend.

He was let off the bus in the 400 block of Funderburg Road.

“He was fine,” said Sgt. Paul Hicks of the Fairborn Police Department. Johnson stayed out all night on his own free will and alone, he said.

Police said this was the third report to police of the child running away, and that it is the fifth time he has done so.

Children services was notified of the case.
