DAYTON, Ohio —
Ride the River Rentals, located next to the concessions and bike hub at RiverScape MetroPark, 237 E. Monument Ave., will host kayak rentals provided by local paddle sport retailer Whitewater Warehouse. Beginners are invited to participate in two float dates, as well.
“Kayaking is a great way to enjoy one of our region’s best features—our extensive network of water trails,” says Five Rivers MetroParks Outdoor Connections Director Greg Brumitt. “As we develop the next phase of RiverScape MetroPark, the paddle sport opportunities will improve. It is our goal that the Saturday kayak rentals will introduce Dayton-area residents and tourists to the potential of paddle sports.” The Miami Valley boasts a total of more than 250 miles of water trails that residents can enjoy through paddling, fishing, birdwatching and more!
Rentals will take place Saturdays, June 11 through July 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prices range from $6 for a 30-minute kayak rental, $10 for an hour and $15 for two hours.
Beginners should consider participating in a kayak float. “Floats are a great way to learn more about kayaking,” Brumitt says. “You just get in the boat and, literally, float downstream. It’s a very relaxing, enjoyable ride.” Float dates are June 18 and July 16. Prices are a fixed $15 and include transportation costs from the rental site to the start of the float from Whitewater Warehouse.
Participants in all kayak rental activities will be properly outfitted with lifejackets and given basic instruction to ensure safety. Age restrictions apply; see the Ride the River Rentals website for details. Information about Whitewater Warehouse and their products and programs can be found online at www.kayakdayton.com.
Other rentals include roller blades, coaster bikes, tandem bikes, and child trailers, seats and trail-a-bikes offered now through Labor Day weekend.
