Third-shift workers left the plant at 7 a.m. Friday and will not return. Some workers that NewsCenter 7 spoke to said they are uncertain as to what they will do in the future.

GM Timeline

Company officials said less than 20 people will actually lose their jobs. That is because 1,239 Moraine Assembly workers gave up their jobs by taking GM’s buyout offer.

GM said the third shift was eliminated because vehicle demand is down. However, the plant will continue to make its current line of vehicles indefinitely.

Plant spokesperson Jessica Peck said that GM is continuing to look at plans for the Moraine plant. So, there is a possibility that the Moraine plant may hire again in the future.

Production at the plant will halt for three weeks beginning Friday night. The plant will shut down for two weeks for vacation. Company officials said the plant will shut down for an additional week, partially due to supply and demand.
