Two people are in custody after a high-speed chase through Miami County early Thursday morning.

MIAMI COUNTY —

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said they arrested two men early Thursday morning after a high-speed chase on Interstate 75 that began in Miami County and ended near the Montgomery County line.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop on I-75 south just north of U.S. 36 near County Road 25-A around 1:20 a.m. after the vehicle was making erratic lane changes, troopers said. When the trooper approached the car the driver sped off and led officers on a chase that spanned a 17-mile section of southbound I-75 with speeds exceeding 100 mph, troopers said.

As the chase continued from the Piqua area and through Troy, officers were eventually able to slow the vehicle down after a Tipp City police officer deployed stop sticks on the highway near Tipp City, troopers said.

“Ideally what we’d like to do is get behind a guardrail or some type of concrete barrier to protect the officer himself,” OSP Sgt. John Westerfield said. “It’s still dangerous whether a car is going 20 or 120 to stand out in traffic to deploy those.”

The stop sticks deflated the front tires of the car, and the vehicle eventually came to a stop on I-75 south between Ohio 571 and Northwoods Boulevard around 1:30 a.m., troopers said.

The driver of the car attempted to flee from the vehicle, but a trooper was able to catch the driver. Both the passenger, Davion Graves, 21, and driver, Mack Dorsey, 21, were arrested and booked into the Miami County Jail, troopers said.

Dorsey had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and Graves had a felony warrant out for his arrest. Both are being held in jail on the warrants, which are from probation violations in Montgomery County, according to officials. The highway patrol will meet with the prosecutor’s office to discuss charges in connection to the pursuit itself, troopers said.Troopers said Dorsey was driving without a license.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Tipp City Police assisted during the pursuit.

This was the second high-speed chase that happened in the Miami Valley in the last couple of days. The first chase started on I-75 near Middletown and ended on Ohio 63 near Lebanon. The chase ended with a trooper's cruiser being damaged in a crash.
