URBANA, Champaign Co. —

A juvenile driver is in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center after leading Ohio Highway Patrol troopers on a chase with speeds of 100 mph, troopers said.

OSHP Sgt. Timothy Henn said a trooper attempted to stop the mini-van in the area of Malone Avenue and Main Street in the city of Bellefontaine for speeding around 12:45 a.m. When the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle the driver sped off travelling south on U.S. 68, Henn said.

Troopers deployed stop sticks just south of the Bellefontaine city limits, which popped the two front tires of the vehicle, but the driver continued fleeing from officers, Henn said.

The vehicle continued south on U.S. 68 and Logan and Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies joined in the pursuit, which continued through West Liberty. West Liberty Police also assisted in the chase.

The driver eventually drove off the right side of the road on the Grimes Field Airport before trying to reenter the road. The mini-van struck a West Liberty Police cruiser and the two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.

The juvenile passenger of the vehicle has been released to parents.

The chase lasted for about 15 miles.

Charges in the case are pending and the Marysville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
