2 Men Accused Of Breaking Into Clark Co. Homes

CLARK COUNTY, Ohio —

Two men were arrested, accused of breaking into several houses Friday in the 1200 block of South Charleston Pike.

A would-be victim is being credited for helping authorities catch the suspects.

Deputies think the men broke into several homes while homeowners were away during the day. However, one homeowner that who was targeted was at home and answered the door.

Deputies said the men stole video games, lots of costume jewelry, gaming equipment and an expensive camera.

Sheriff Gene Kelly said, "These individuals also stole television sets at every location where they committed a burglary. And each of them had hundreds of dollars in cash. We believe those were sold already before were able to stop them."

Investigators worked hard on the case and managed to wrap it up by early afternoon on Friday.

Kelly said, "These burglaries all occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Friday.

The sheriff said the men would back their truck in the drive way of a home, knock on the door to make sure that no one answered and then they would break in. According to deputies, the men targeted five home, but only got into three of them.

Kelly said "They made a story up that they had run out of gas, but after she declined to help them, they drove away. But, the important part is, she got the license number, the description of the vehicle and she called us and reported it."

The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Warren County. Deputies eventually found the truck in Springfield.

The men have been charged with three counts of burglary and receiving stolen property in Clark County. They also face charges in the city of Springfield, too.
