SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene Co. —

Two malfunctioning semi-tractor trailers collided on Interstate 675 near the Wilmington Pike exit early Tuesday morning.

The Ohio Highway Patrol and Sugarcreek Twp. Fire Department responded to the crash in the northbound lanes of I-675 around 2:20 a.m.

Troopers said one semi blew a tire and was attempting to drive onto the right shoulder of the highway, when another semi struck the back end of it. The second semi was filling up with smoke and the driver of it was also trying to pull off the highway, but couldn’t see the semi in front of it due to the smoke, troopers said.

The collision caused an oil leak on the highway and sand was thrown down to help absorb the oil.

One of the drivers suffered a minor injury, but refused medical transport to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
