6 Dayton police promotions announced

DAYTON —

Several Dayton Police officers will be promoted to new positions this week following several retirements within the department.

Six individuals will be promoted during a ceremony at the conclusion of the 8:30 a.m. Dayton City Commission meeting tomorrow at City Hall, 101 W. Third St.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said the department continues to transition new individuals into supervisory ranks due to ongoing retirements.

“The Dayton Police Department is fortunate to have so many talented, dedicated and competent personnel to assume roles of increased responsibility and the citizens of Dayton will be well served by these new promotees,” he said.

  • Lieutenant David R. Wolford is being promoted to Major and made Superintendent of the Central Patrol Operations Division following the retirement of Major Larry Faulkner in December.
  • Sergeant Joseph C. Wiesman who was previously part of the Academy Staff is being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and will serve as Narcotics Bureau Commander.
  • Officer Jon W. Zimmerman is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant and moved from East Patrol Operations Division to West Patrol Operations Division.
  • Officer Jason M. Hall, previously a crime scene investigator is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant with the East Patrol Operations Division.
  • Officer Andrew E. Gillig with the West Patrol Operations Division is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant and will be working with the East Patrol Operations Division.
  • Officer Christopher W. Malson is being promoted to the rank of Sergeant, temporarily assigned to Investigations and Administrative Support Division, Academy Staff and Training.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners will have a first reading of an ordinance to rehire Deputy Chief Robert Chabali through 2014. He is currently set to retire in February.
