Arrest Made In Car Wash Fire

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Authorities said they have arrested one person in connection with a setting a local car wash on fire.

Early Tuesday morning, firefighters were called to The Four Seasons Car Wash on Yankee Road in Washington Township when a fire broke out in one of the car wash bays.

The fire investigation has now turned into a criminal investigation. Fire officials and deputies with the sheriff’s office said they spent the day looking for two white males, believed to be in the early 20s.

Fire officials said firefighters from Miami Township were on their way back to their station when the spotted smoke and flames coming from the structure. They immediately called Washington Township Fire and then began bringing the flames under control themselves.

Rich Palmer with Washington Township Fire said, “The situation is, there are materials they use such as soaps and chemicals, things that burn. It is not uncommon.”

Investigator said surveillance video captured two men intentionally starting the fire. They said the men lit sponge brushes in the car wash bay on fire.

News Center 7 obtained footage of the video and it showed the men walking into the auto bath bay and used lighters to ignite several large brushes on fire.

Palmer said, “It takes a few moments, but we see flames start and then a lot of smoke develops. That is when we lose track of them.”

Deputies said the structure of the car wash is fine, but the fire did cause damage to the one car wash bay.

Sheriff's deputies said if you have any information about this fire, contact them at 225-4357.
