Arrest Made In Fatal Hit-And-Run

FAIRBORN, Ohio —

Beavercreek police arrested a man they said struck a Wright State University student with his vehicle and left him to die.

James Hyatt was taken into custody late Friday afternoon almost two months after the deadly accident. Hyatt was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.

Detectives arrested Hyatt at his home in Fairborn after investigating the case for almost two months.

According to police, Hyatt was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he struck and killed 20-year-old Neil Achyra on Zink Road. Investigators said Achyra was walking the down the street with two of his friends.

Achyra was from Findley and was very active in that community. He was a junior at Wright State when he was killed.

According to detectives, the break in the case came from a phone tip. The tip led investigators to West Virginia, where they found Hyatt and his vehicle.

Investigators took their case to a grand jury, where enough evidence was found to indict Hyatt for the crime.
