Authorities: Man Jailed After Assaulting Elderly Man

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

In Springfield, a man is behind bars after police said he assaulted a man with a hammer. Investigators said the suspect beat an elderly man inside the victim's home on Omega Street on Sunday.

Authorities said despite serious head injuries, the 79-year-old victim was able to tell Clark County sheriff's deputies who attacked him.

On Monday morning, Tony Hosier, 34, pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault. Authorities said Hosier admitted to breaking into the victim's home, beating the resident on the head with a hammer and then taking some cash.

Investigators said around 1 a.m. Monday, Springfield police and deputies found Hosier at an apartment on Montgomery Avenue. Authorities said Hosier had money with blood on it in his pockets.

Deputies said the victim drove himself to a Springfield hospital, where he was treated and released.

Hosier is in the Clark County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
