DAYTON —
Kyle Ritchie wants to find the men responsible for leaving him beaten and bloodied under the Steve Whalen Bridge.
Police said Ritchie was riding his bike on a sidewalk when three men stepped out from behind a pillar.
“I just saw a blur," said Ritchie. “They hit me in the head, I don’t know if it was a baseball bat or a two-by-four.”
Investigators said Ritchie was thrown to the ground.
“They kicked me in the stomach, knocked the wind out of me.”
Ritchie, with one arm in a sling from a previous injury, said he struggled against the three men.
But police said the suspects stood on his one good arm while they robbed him. They said the men ripped open Ritchie’s pocket to steal his wallet containing $600. It was rent money for Ritchie and his neighbor.
He crawled to his cell phone to call for help.
Officers found him bleeding from his swollen forehead. Ritchie also complained of right arm and shoulder pain.
Ritchie said he had been downtown trying to help his neighbor.
“She was trying to get on the HEAP that helps you with your utility bills, he said. “She asked me if I’d sit down there in line for her.”
Ritchie spent part of Thursday in the hospital. He does not have any broken bones.
He plans to meet again soon with Dayton police to look at old mug shots.
