DAYTON, Ohio —

A woman who police say was attacked by her cousin on Saturday was downgraded to critical condition on Sunday.

Dayton police arrested her cousin, Percy Cochran, Saturday evening in connection with the attack. Police say he went on a crime spree following the attack.

Police said Cochran beat his cousin with a VCR and then robbed the homes of two more relatives.

He was arrested in an Oregon District business Saturday evening.

Cochran is accused of assaulting his cousin around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said he beat her so badly that her eyes were swollen shut.

Cochran reportedly called his aunt, the victim's mother, and told her what happened. She then called 911 to report the incident.

Police said Cochran next broke into a relative's house on West Second Street before making his way to his aunt's house. Officers said he stole several items, including two handguns. Police have not yet recovered the weapons.

According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Web site, Cochran was released from prison Feb. 25.

He was in prison for almost three years on harassment, assault and burglary convictions.
