Beavercreek To Vote On $9.9M Levy

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio —

The Beavercreek Board of Education voted to place a $9.9 mill, five-year emergency operating levy on May's ballot.

Board members approved the levy Saturday at a special meeting, citing rapid rises in enrollment, 1,200 new students over the past 10 years, and offset state funding reductions.

Some taxpayers say they'll support the levy.

"[A levy] always pays for itself 100-fold. Education is the most important thing that exists... What are we saying to our students when they have outdated books? What's the real message? You have to put your money where your mouth is," Beavercreek resident Wini Ray said.

Others have some reservations.

"It's got to be difficult for [the children,] you know, because they need an education... [but] I know how difficult it is [for taxpayers.] There's only so much people can give. It's just tough," Denise Ramsey said.

The district would face an $11 million deficit in the 2012-13 school year of the levy does not pass, Beavercreek schools said.
