A winter weather advisory has been issued for 4 a.m Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday for several counties in the Miami Valley and southwest Ohio.

The advisory issued by the National Weather Service at 3:07 p.m. includes Auglaize, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby and Warren counties in Ohio and the Indiana counties of Wayne and Union.

This evening will include frigid air with wind chill values at or below zero degrees, said Storm Center 7 Meteorologist McCall Vrydaughs.

Snow is expected to arrive after midnight, and between 2 and 3 inches may accumulate by sunrise. A second clipper system may bring an additional inch Saturday night into Sunday.

The breeze will pick up a bit Sunday afternoon, so we may have a little blowing and drifting and that may keep roads slick for a bit after the snow ends, said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson. Highs the next two days will be in the mid 20s with a low Sunday morning around 20.

“We’ll see some clearing Sunday night and that means a colder start Monday, in the mid teens,” Simpson said. “Any early sun Monday will give way to more clouds and another batch of light snow, arriving in the afternoon and ending sometime Monday evening.”

“This should bring light accumulation — although not nearly as much as the weekend snow— and cause slick spots for Monday evening’s commute,” he said.

Tuesday is almost certainly going to offer a repeat of Monday, but that snow may arrive a bit later. The threat of slick roads for Tuesday evening’s commute is in place, Simpson said.

Sun is expected to return Wednesday with temperatures reaching a few degrees above freezing in the afternoon.
