Bad crash on Germantown/Liberty Road in New Lebanon

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Montgomery County —

Two children — 6 and 3 years old — are in critical condition after being flown to Children’s Medical Center of Dayton after a third child, 10, and two parents were involved in a severe crash on Germantown-Liberty Road in New Lebanon Saturday afternoon.

Multiple medics from area municipalities were dispatched to the scene around 5 p.m. A third child is listed in serious condition at Children’s Medical Center. The parents were taken to Kettering Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County sheriff’s Maj. David Hale said a preliminary investigation indicated a female was driving her husband and three children in a sedan north on Germantown-Liberty. As she approached the intersection of Farmersville-West Carrollton Pike, she either did not stop, or stopped and proceeded into the intersection. The sedan was stuck by a pickup truck moving eastbound on Farmersville-West Carrollton.

The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

“Being CareFlighted, they’re at least critical,” Hale said at the scene when asked about the children’s injuries.

The names of those involved had not been released as of Saturday night. Neighbors at the scene said crashes are common in that area.

“We yearly review all of our crashes for any patterns, any flows,” Hale said. “If we see an area that is abruptly higher we’ll consult the engineer’s office and look at what can be changed.”

The accident remains under investigation.
