URBANA, Ohio —

A West Liberty, Ohio, man believed to be in his late 40s was killed Monday night when the pickup truck he was driving left County Road 29 in the area near County Road 296 and slammed into a tree.

Jeffrey Dill was headed west on 29 at about 7:25 p.m. when, for unknown reason, his 2006 Dodge Heavy Duty Truck left the road and continued into a field until it hit the tree and rolled at least once, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies and Urbana Fire and EMS crews were dispatched to the area in Salem Twp., northwest of Urbana, on a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a person who, according to initial reports to the dispatch center, appeared to be unresponsive.

CareFlight was requested to be placed on standby, but was canceled less than a half-hour later.

The Champaign Coroner’s Office was dispatched and Dill was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
