Campers Robbed At Gunpoint In State Park

GREENE COUNTY, Ohio —

Two campers at John Bryan State Park were robbed at gunpoint.

As deputies search for the suspects, they are urging campers to be careful when they pitch their tents.

Deputies don't want to discourage people from camping at John Bryan State Park, but they want them to be careful when they do.

Cindy and Barney Rapp said being outdoors is a top priority. "We just love it. It's a second childhood for us. We just love camping," said Cindy.

The Rapps' also love camping at John Bryan State Park.

Cindy Rapp said, "It's close to home. We love Young's Dairy. We just like to get out and hike and test our backpacks."

But recently, Greene County deputies were called to the campground on the report of a robbery. It happened in the middle of the night and a man and woman awakened the campers and robbed them at gunpoint.

Detective Kyle Metz said, "They approached them, one showing a firearm and demanded they turn over all their stuff."

authorities don't understand why campers would be targeted.

"We have backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, little to nothing else, really," said Cindy Rapp.
