Car, Snow Plow Collide, Shutting Down I-675

FAIRBORN, Ohio —

Authorities said southbound Interstate 675 was shut down for a while Friday morning after a car and a snow plow collided.

The collision happened between Route 235 and Dayton-Yellow Springs Road sometime before 6 a.m.

Emergency crews said the car became wedged under the middle of the snow plow, and may have been dragged for a short time before the driver of the snow plow realized what had happened.

Authorities had to use the Jaws of Life to get the driver of the car out of the wreckage. The driver was then taken by ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.

Police said it looks like the driver of the crushed car came up behind a vehicle going about 55 mph in the right lane, tried to pass but then couldn’t get back over in time to avoid hitting the snowplow that was traveling at 25 mph.

At this time, the condition of the snow plow driver is not known.

Around 7:20 a.m. authorities opened one lane of the highway to allow traffic to get through. The closure of the highway caused a major backup.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
