Career Transition Centers Makes Its Own Transition

DAYTON, Ohio —

The Montgomery County Department of Job & Family Services (MCDJFS) will consolidate the operations of the Career Transition Center beginning Dec. 20, 2010. In order to maximize the full menu of services available, the Career Transition Center at 4257 Dryden Rd. in Moraine, will move 13 employees to the Job Center, 1111 Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton.

The Career Transition Center opened in July, 2005 to temporarily assist the immediate needs of dislocated workers affected by downsizing and mass layoffs primarily in the manufacturing and automotive industries. Since then, over 6,000 job seekers have accessed the Transition Center’s resources.

To date, 1,970 individuals have utilized the training and educational services offered and 823 people have successfully secured employment. During its operation, the Transition Center met or exceeded all state and federal performance measures for dislocated workers.

“The Career Transition Center was designed as a temporary resource, but recently the number of first time users has dramatically declined,” noted MCDJFS Director Gayle Bullard. “Now, the still-unemployed worker and their family may need the broad spectrum of resources and services available at the Job Center, which include job search assistance, career counseling and when appropriate, funding for occupational training.”

There will be no interruption of services as a result of the move. Individuals currently involved with the Career Transition Center are advised to keep in touch with their Workforce Investment Act (WIA) case manager and/or a Trade Adjustment Assistance Act (TAA) representative.
