Centerville Business Reportedly Blames Smoking Ban For Closure

CENTERVILLE, Ohio —

It has been about six months since Centerville’s smoking ban went into place and now its effects are being felt.

The Thirsty Dog restaurant is out of business, reportedly blaming the ban. Now, other businesses said they have lost customers, too.

The smoking ban started out controversial, and the controversy continues today. The sign on the front door of the Thirsty Dog says, “Out of business, but at least nobody is smoking here.”

The owner of the Thirsty Dog will not comment, but reportedly blames the ban for loss of business.

Centerville city manager Greg Horn said, “Many businesses tell us that they have people that frequent their establishment that wouldn’t before because they used to permit smoking.”

Horn said he does not know for sure if the ban is totally to blame for the Thirsty Dog’s closing. He said the city has just sent out a survey to businesses asking them how they have been affected by the ban.
