Child Welfare Check Leads To Discovery Of Pot

CLARK COUNTY, Ohio —

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the 3700 block of Miller Road on Sunday to check on the welfare of two young children in reference to a custody case.

When the deputy arrived, he found signs of possible forced entry into the residence, and while checking the interior of the home, the deputy found a marijuana growing operation in the basement.

The Sheriff's Office said the deputy secured the scene until detectives arrived with a search warrant. Upon serving the search warrant, detectives said they found a construction grow room that contained 38 marijuana plants that were being cultivated in the basement.

Detectives said they disassembled the grow room and seized the pot plants, along with a safe and an assault rifle.

The marijuana plants were sent to a crime lab for analysis and the case is expected to be sent to a Clark County grand jury.

At this time, no one has been charged.
