Church, site of at least 12 break-ins, hit again

DAYTON —

Someone stole food and other items from a church that’s been burglarized several times this year.

Eastmont United Methodist Church, 5039 Woodbine Ave., was targeted Monday night by a thief who took a hot dog, a 7-Up soda, a Pepsi soda, bread, two hammers and a silver Sony stereo, according to the Dayton police report.

The items had been set out on a table in preparation for an upcoming sale, a church official told police.

Police said the suspect tried to break into the pastor’s office but only damaged the door.

Police said the break-in is an ongoing problem at the church, which has had about 12 such incidents this year.

There were no signs of forced entry, and the church official told police it may be someone who has one of 18 keys to the front door, according to the report.
