Community Sad To See Westwood Go

DAYTON, Ohio —

The people who played and worked in the Westwood Community Center left it for the last time Friday night as the city prepares to open a new facility later this year.

The Westwood Community Center has been a part of some families for 3 generations and parents are worried that when it closes Saturday, their children will be on the streets instead of inside the safe environment Westwood provided.

"It makes me really feel bad deep inside," one longtime Westwood patron said. "I know today that our youth will not have any place to go or anything to do."

In addition to Westwood, 3 other community centers are closing before the city opens the new, 45,000 square foot Rec Plex at 2013 West Third Street in September. Some residents said that this new facility might be an upgrade over the previous centers, but it is just too far to take their children.
