SPRINGFIELD —

A vacant house in the 1780 block of North Belmont Avenue in Springfield caught fire Tuesday morning.

Fire officials said the house was engulfed in flames when they arrived shortly after 6 a.m. Fire fighters had difficulty entering the house due to large flames present on the outside of the structure, according to reports.

Springfield Fire Captain Kenneth Bowen said battling the fire was made difficult because the house had rotting floors and hadn’t been kept up to code. He said the problems are typical at vacant structure fires.

The cause of the fire is inconclusive. No one was injured.
