EATON —

A man and two young women are in the Preble County Jail tonight on 28 criminal counts accusing them of being involved in a series of burglaries throughout the county and the village of Camden.

Trevor Messer, 23, 21-year-old Mariah Brixner and 19-year-old Chelsea Newton were in jail Thursday night on charges ranging from receiving stolen property to forgery, according to Sheriff Michael Simpson’s office.

Camden police initially arrested two of the three on Feb. 14 after a tip on the location of stolen property taken during a burglary in that jurisdiction. Police located the two in Montgomery County, according to the sheriff’s office, which did not identify exactly who was arrested at that time.

Camden police and sheriff’s deputies conducted several follow-up investigations after those arrests and tracked down “numerous items of stolen property from burglaries in both the village of Camden and residences in Preble County.”

A third person later was identified by authorities as having been involved in the burglaries and was arrested. Again, the sheriff’s office didn’t identify which of the three was the third person arrested.

Attempts to reach the sheriff’s office for more details about the extent of the crime spree or what led to the arrests of three were unsuccessful.

The charges against Messer include:

* six counts of misdemeanor theft,

* five counts of felony forgery,

* three counts of felony burglary

* single counts of grand theft and breaking and entering. Both of those are felonies as well.

The charges against Brixner include:

* single counts of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business. Both are misdemeanors.

The charges against Newton include:

* four counts of misdemeanor theft,

* three counts of burglary

* single counts of forgery, grand theft and receiving stolen property. Those three are felonies.
