$5K reward offered for Urbana arson

Breaking News Staff

URBANA —

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the person or persons responsible for setting a garage and vehicle on fire this week.

Urbana fire and police were dispatched to a report about a working structure fire at 302 E. Church St. at about 10:24 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. Firefighters arrived to find a detached, two-car garage and the van inside in flames.

The residents of the address were at home at the time and there were no apparent injuries, according to Urbana fire Assistant Chief Jeffrey Asper in information disseminated to media on Thursday.

The investigation by the fire and police divisions and the state fire marshal’s office determined the fire had been intentionally set. Because the incident has been ruled arson, the state fire marshal’s office is not releasing specific details relating to how the fire started.

The reward being offered is part of the Blue Ribbon Arson Reward program that administered through the fire marshal’s office.

Anyone who has information about the fire is asked to call the fire marshal’s office at (800) 589-2728.

If you want to remain anonymous, you are asked to call the Urbana police division’s tip hotline at (937) 652-4357.
