Developers report 17 new homes vandalized

DAYTON —

More than a dozen new homes in the finishing phase of construction were vandalized over the weekend, according to Dayton police.

Developers with Miller-Valentine Construction, Inc. reported damage to 17 of 20 homes being built on Edison, Clemmer and West First streets. The homes are part of the Roosevelt Homes project that broke ground in August.

The damage happened during the holiday weekend. When crews returned to work on Monday, they discovered the houses had their front or rear doors kicked in and several windows broken.

There was no reported damage to the inside of the houses and nothing was stolen, according to police reports.

News Center 7 stopped by the development Tuesday and all the damage had been repaired.

According to an August release from Miller-Valentine Group, the Roosevelt Homes are a partnership between the company and St. Mary Development Corporation, the City of Dayton, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Key Bank, Ohio Department of Development, and U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Expected to be completed in December, Roosevelt Homes will consist of 43 single-family lease-to-purchase residences for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
