DAYTON —

Dayton Police officers shot and killed a dog while serving a search warrant at a suspected drug house Monday night.

According to a Dayton Police incident report narcotics officers busted down the door of a home in the 500 block of Baltimore Street on Monday evening and encountered a “pit bull type breed” dog who was reportedly baring its teeth and charging at the officers. An officer shot the and killed the dog.

The dog’s owner, who was the named subject of the search warrant, was seen in the front hallway of the house grabbing a gun and running toward the back of the house, according to the report.

Police ran to the kitchen and saw him throw the gun on the ground, the report states. He and three other men were in the kitchen.

Recovered in the search of the house were the .45-caliber Glock handgun, a jar of marijuana weighing 60 grams, cash, a scale and several ammunition magazines.

The resident said the drugs were his for personal use and denied ever selling drugs. According to the report, when police said they had bought weed from him during an undercover investigation he called a “random event.”

The other men said they were friends who came over to play video games and that they knew nothing about any drug sales, according to the report.

The resident was not arrested and no charges have been filed according to court records. The police report indicated he could be charged with having weapons under disability and possession of drugs.
