DAYTON —
A man who crashed into several cars on Xenia Avenue Thursday evening may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police.
Darian Smith, 28, was arrested pending charges of operating a vehicle intoxicated, possession of drugs, and driving under suspension.
According to a Dayton Police incident report, officers responded to the 1300 block of Xenia at about 7 p.m. because a driver had reportedly hit multiple parked cars.
Witnesses pointed out Smith and said he was the only person that got out of the car and that he had been driving, according to the report.
Smith told police that a woman he didn’t know was driving the car and he’d been asleep in the passenger seat. He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to the hospital for a blood test to determine if he was drunk or high.
At the hospital, police found 1.55 grams of crack cocaine in the pocket of Smith’s jacket, according to the report. He denied that the drugs had come from his pocket.
